Teaching Philosophy

I believe that no teaching philosophy is ever stagnant. It is always changing and evolving. A teacher should be constantly learning, and thus their philosophy should always be changing. There are several things that I know will always be important to my teaching practice.

I believe that every student has the right to be successful in their learning. As a teacher my job is to make sure that each student achieves what they are capable of. In order for a student to be successful they need to feel safe. I want to create a space where students feel that they can share their thoughts and feelings without being embarrassed. One of the parts of creating a safe space is promoting diversity. In a multicultural area respect of each other and acceptance is important. Students also need to be excited about their learning in order to participate in the classroom community. My job is to inspire learning by creating units that meets every need and style of learning. Every student has individual needs, and it is my job to meet them. Finally and most importantly in order to create a secure space for students I believe that creating relationships with my students is vital. If I am honest with my students, than that will encourage them to be open with their classmates. Above all I desire to show my students that they are unique and are cared for.
